Chinmay’s munja (thread) ceremony, Pune

There’s something truly special about photographing a family event that’s filled with love, laughter, and meaning. Chinmay’s Munja (thread ceremony) was exactly that—a beautiful day full of warm hugs, delicious food, and the joy of being surrounded by your people.It was a one-day celebration with just close family and friends—intimate and heartfelt. Chinmay, an avid gamer and super enthusiastic kid, was at the center of it all. The ceremony, conducted in traditional Tamil style, was full of small moments that meant the world to the family. Both the breakfast and lunch were prepared by talented South Indian cooks, and the ceremony took place at a beautiful location just below Sinhagad Fort, near Pune—Vrundavan Agrotourism, which offered a lush, peaceful setting.

After the rituals, I walked around the property with Chinmay and his cousins, capturing them goofing around, being silly, laughing, and just enjoying each other’s company. These are the kinds of moments I love preserving—real, unfiltered memories of childhood, family bonds, and quiet joy.

I genuinely believe the world is a small place. Chinmay’s aatya, Rohini, is actually a childhood friend of mine from Vashi. I was once supposed to cover her wedding, but the pandemic changed all the plans that were so carefully laid out. Still, life had its own way of connecting us again. Anand (Chinmay’s father) and Rohini asked me to document this special occasion instead—the Munja.

The family had gone through some difficult times, but they chose to come together, celebrate, and hold on to the happiness of having their loved ones around. And that, to me, is incredibly beautiful.
